Products & Services
Space Structures develops, manufactures, assembles, tests and supplies high performance mechanical subsystems for space applications, for example:
Satellite and launcher structures - Stiffness and mass performance are key
Primary and secondary structures
Integrated radiator functionalities
Launch vehicle adapters (LVA)
Rideshare structures
Human spaceflight applications (ISS, Orion, Lunar Gateway) - fracture control and human factors design to be considered
Primary and secondary structures
Internal and exernal structures
Rack structures
Optical Payload and other instrument structures and their sub-assemblies - dimensional stability is the main priority
Telescope structures
Optical benches
Bipods / Hexapods
Straylight baffles
Electronic Equipment housings/enclosures - good balance between structural and thermal performance required
Power supply, control and distribution units (PSU/PCU/PDU)
Data handling/processing units (DHU/DPU)
Batteries
And as general building blocks, we also provide:
Sandwich panels and their assemblies
Struts and booms: fittings and tubes in metal or FRP
Monolithic FRP parts: plates cleats, brackets
Machined metal parts
Espa class multisatellite adapters
Payload Adapters can support any combination of deployment hardware, and can be adapted to fit your mission requirements. From design to verification to launch, hardware meets all SpaceX requirements whether you are launching a 0.25U cubesat or a 500 kg microsat. Rideshare payload adapters maximize your value per mass and volume when launching.
Our expertise include:
Design Engineering
Structures Engineering
Interfacing with SpaceX, launch aggregators and satellite manufacturers engineering teams
Supply Chain Management
Mechanical Subsystem Delivery
Honeycomb Sandwich Panels and Panel Assemblies
We design, size, manufacture (with partners), test, and supply Sandwich panels and their assemblies. Space Structures supplies panels with the following material combinations:
Aluminium facesheets - aluminium honeycomb core
GFRP facesheets - aluminium honeycomb core
CFRP facesheets - aluminium honeycomb core
CFRP facesheets - CFRP honeycomb core
Optionally we also offer NOMEX cores.
For interfaces, inserts can be included with the following parameters:
Aluminium, titanium, INVAR or CFRP material
Floating, face-to-face, edge or block type
Through-holes or threads (if required also including thread locking)
Struts and Booms
Hybrid Struts
Hybrid Struts consist of composite material tubes and metallic fittings-
Our turnkey solution with the best value for the money.
Material selection and layup design according to the application and desired properties.
Tubes in filament winding, thermoplastic or prepreg technology.
Circular, rectangular or other cross section geometries.
Metallic fittings (aluminium, titanium, invar, or others).
Bonded and riveted joints qualified across a wide temperature & load range.
With threads, close-tolerance holes, bearings or other features on demand.
Surface treatment, special threads (e.g. Helicoil) and heat treatment of the metal parts on demand.
Full CFRP Struts: integral single CFRP piece with continuous fibres including the fittings.
Maximum lightweight
Dimensionally stable . No thermal expansion, insensitive to thermal cycling
Special DoubleZero variant with zero CTE and CME
Reduction of number of parts
Variety of interfaces
We can create hollow structures with continuous carbon fibres and only tiny openings - a unique combination.
SpaceBolt - Software for Bolt Analysis and Verification
Software product based on the industry standards ECSS-HB-32-23 and VDI-2230. It is the ONLY software validated by the European Space Agency (ESA).
User friendly graphical user interface
Simple handling of large datasets
Multiple bolt groups, Excel interface, thousands of joints in one session.
Modular structure
Only pay for the features you actually need!
Output for fracture analysis
Output for subsequent fracture analysis can be created in NASGRO format.
Direct import of FEA results
NASTRAN .PCH files and plain CSV formats. Statics, sine and random loads. Thousands of loadcases are processed simultaneously in only a few seconds.
Database functionality
All data for bolts, nuts, inserts, material and friction coefficients configured and easily accessible. Database comes with public information. Custom information can be added by the user.
SpaceVibe Software - Space Payload Vibration Testing Tool
SpaceVibe
Space industry tool to assess the sine and random vibrations analysis and test data.
Main Features
Visualize, interpolate, scale and notch sine and random vibrations responses (transfer functions, harmonics and random vibrations)
Compare vibration responses (both predicted or measured) against the allowable levels (QSL, sine, PSD and RRS)
Overlay plots (test-vs-prediction, pre/post-resonance search)
Quick notch definition for sine and random vibrations
Sensor orientation check
Supports Nastran punch (PCH), universal 58 (UNV), Excel (XLSX) and comma separated files (CSV)
Minimalistic, user friendly and fast interface (no more VBA)
Made specifically for space sector (ECSS-E-HB-32-26, NASA-HDBK-7004)
Super fast (parsing hundreds of channels in seconds)
Precision Assemblies
High-performance satellite and launcher structures, optical payload structures and their sub-assemblies
The large majority of such projects are Build-to-Spec, i.e. Space Structures elaborates the whole project based on a specification as input and takes the responsibility for the design and performance up until verification testing is completed. We have all required key processes (bolting, riveting, bonding, alignment and measurement) and facilities for precision assembly in-house.
Engineering Service Consulting
Space applications are our core competence and passion. But also in other industries our know-how and experience can make the difference. We also support you in the frame of non-routine tasks and in shortage of covering human resources in the form of engineering service consulting.
For the development of space products system engineering know-how is a key factor for successful project implementation.
Our extensive design engineering know-how and experience helps designing complex parts and assemblies for extreme applications.
Lightweight structures, special structures and complex details often require more than a standard analysis. This is where our special structural analysis know-how comes in. FEA, vibration, thermo-elastic, shock, fatigue, fracture control are all subjects we take care of.
Thermal control of space products is an extreme challenge. Our experience helps to find a thermal design that works.
Never fail a test again: with the help of our test engineering services.
Need to get launch approval for your satellite from the mechanical perspective? We create the required condensed Craig-Bampton models, help evaluate CLA results and get your baby flight approved.
