About us

With innovative Star Sensors and LiDARs on our way to the Moon, Mars and beyond.

#visionary As vast as the universe is, there is no space for inaccuracy.

#highlight2022 The Orion spacecraft is equipped with Star Sensors from Jena-Optronik.

#reliability The ASTRO® APS is the world's most successful star sensor with over 350 flight patterns ordered. It is successfully used in a variety of missions by almost all international satellite manufacturers.

#future Jena-Optronik’s latest innovations - ASTRO® CL, an extremely compact, lightweight and radiation-hard optical head for small satellites and the new (mega)constellations. In addition, the successor to our ASTRO APS: ASTRO® APS3, the next generation versatile Star Sensor for the high-rel space market.

#rendezvous in space Our RVS® Lidar portfolio enables a huge variety of mission scenarios. These include for example the unaided determination of position & attitude of objects in space or the landing on celestial bodies like Moon or Mars.

Products & Services

For decades now we’ve been successfully making leading-edge space missions possible "out of space for our world".

As a space company we make an important contribution, to detect and better understand the challenges our planet is facing. Various applications within the field of satellite communication, navigation and Earth observation improve our daily life.

We’re proud to count the world’s leading space companies and agencies among our clients. They rely on innovations made by Jena-Optronik.

As vast as the universe is, there is no space for inaccuracy: sensors by Jena-Optronik keep satellites and spacecrafts stable and on track. ´

Visionary technology in the truest sense of the word: our space optics & electronics help to generate crucial Earth observation data, helping to improve the quality of life.

ASTRO® APS

The ASTRO® APS is the world's most successful star sensor with over 350 flight patterns ordered. It is successfully used in a wide variety of missions by almost all international satellite manufacturers.

With the star sensor, Jena-Optronik has made significant contributions to innovative milestones in operational missions in space, e.g. Alphasat. Furthermore, the star sensors work on the world's first geostationary communication satellite, which is operated fully electrically.

ASTRO® CL, ASTRO® APS3 and ASTROhead

Jena-Optronik’s The latest innovations from Jena-Optronik include the ASTRO® CL, an extremely compact, lightweight and radiation-hard optical head targeting applications in the market of small satellites like those used in the new (mega)constellations.

In addition, the successor to our ASTRO APS: ASTRO® APS3, the next generation versatile Star Sensor for the high-rel space market.

Jena-Optronik’s ASTROhead is a compact and light-weight space camera for demanding environments.

RVS® 3000(-3D)

Our RVS® Lidar portfolio enables a huge variety of mission scenarios. These include for example the unaided determination of position & attitude of objects in space or the landing on celestial bodies like Moon or Mars.

Our LiDAR can detect hazards in the landing zones during the approach and identify safe landing zones. Many other missions and applications are conceivable - such as robotic service missions on satellites and other types of spacecrafts.
